Help! Giant African millipede dead?

I recently bought a new pair of Giant African millipedes (male and female) They were both very active the first few days, exploring their new tank but after a few days I noticed the male was turning more dusty coloured and didn't seem to be eating, I thought this was molting at first but after a few days I checked to see if he was still alive, he was completely limp with some leg movement. I was getting a bit concerned at this point but though he might come to. Fast forward about a week and I check him again as I am concerned with his complete lack of movement, I gently pick him up only to notice it seemed like he had been split in half near the upper half of his body and lower with a few holes near the head but I think he was still twitching a bit (legs and such). He completely split soon after and he was nearly hollow inside, some bits of connecting tissue left it seemed and he smelled rancid. I am still very new to millipede keeping and only have experience with beetles really, I tried searching this up and no results, I am very concerned about what happened and am wondering if the same thing could happen to the female? She seems fine at the moment, crawling around the tank and eating but she seems to have wanted to sleep next to the male so I am worried to could have spread to her if it was anything contagious. Any sort of information would be greatly appreciated thank you!

They rot pretty quickly after death if you don't remove them, and limp usually = impending death. Being pretty much hollow is actually normal if it gets left to rot for a week. They're pretty much a tube of goo with some stringy bits.

Thank you, I am glad it wasn't some horrific alien parasite here to eat my millipedes! Its sad to have lost a millipede but I suppose we learn through mistakes. Thank you again for confirming it wasn't something bad :)

I mean it's still possible that whatever killed it is contagious (though unlikely), but the condition of the body as described isn't evidence of an alien parasite or any other specific contagious malady.
