heat tape and acrylic tank

I couldn't find an answer by searching, so here goes....
Can flexwatt heat tape be used on the side/back of an acrylic tank? Will it melt it? How should this work??
And yes, I have a rheostat.
Also, the acrylic tank is temporary. Once my T gets bigger I'm moving him to a glass tank.

I use it directly on acrylic, no rheostat, and have not had a problem, however I did distort a KK (not acrylic) rather badly with one.
I sandwich the tape between the enclosure and that foil covered insulating foamboard.
I use it on polyethylene (rubbermaid) also but leave usually about an inch gap between the tape and container.
