Well, the Spilotes pullatus eggs are finally pipping, so it's like xmas around here. This is the first one out:

That has to be one of my favorite snakes.
Kick-ass attitudes.
I mean, any old snake can bite you, but how many employ head-butting to their defensive line-up?
And I love watching them eat.
I had a 5 foot adult at the pet store I worked at back in S.A. for awhile and we would time her "chugging" mice, the best time was 13 seconds!
Awesome.
Nice pic.

They've got a huge range that goes from southern Mexico down into South America. I'm not sure of the exact limits of it, but it's big, with a fair bit of pattern variation depending on locality. Most wc animals are central American.

I was shocked the first time I saw one eat: she dropped down from a branch and swallowed a medium rat, hanging in mid-air in all of a minute or so. When I fed them the other day I knew I'd given them rats that were a bit large for them because it took them more than a couple of minutes to get them down.

Watching them grow is fun too; offspring from my pair have exceeded 6' in one year and 8' in two.
