Picked up a hatchling Eastern Box Turtle while out millipede collecting last weekend. It is about 1.5" in shell length.

Bricked in a 1.5'x3' area for it on the east side of the house. AC drips there to provide a shallow puddle. Area has some day lillies and mulch for cover.

Plan on feeding chopped greens, fruit, redworms and mealworms dusted with vitamins and calcium.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You may want to put a screen cover of some sort over the enclosure. Raccoons are notoriously fond of hatchling boxes.

could you post a pic?

baby box turtles are so cute.
I used to have one named freddy when I was a kid. he LOVED earthworms.

sadly, my brother got sick and spent a few days in childrens hospital, just so happened that we left freddy outside in his tank (we would let him get some sun a few times a week) when we came home 3 days later, he was a turtle raisin...

Coincidently, I just posted this on another thread...

A cool looking box turtle that was 'just passing through' my yard. Mean little bugger, was hissing at me when I offered it an earthworm.

I havent seen a box turtle in NC in a loooong time, good that you found one :) Definitely cover the top of the enclosure. They're good diggers too, so at some point you may have to watch for it tunneling out

They are up here in the Triangle in some abundance. I see them a lot after long heavy rains. I've pulled a number off the roads and taken one into the vet school that had been hit by a car.

I found one once with a missing a back leg that was an old injury. It got along well on just 3 legs.
