Hello,

I am not asking for any ID's as you "can't ID a tarantula to species by a picture." Isn't that right!! :D

It is a shame since he is mature and I sure hate for him to go to waste. He was in a group I purchased tonight from someone who bought a collection of venomous snakes and got these as well and didn't want them. I have a couple of nice surprises in the group as well. One is female and has a beautiful white beard!!! {D

If Volker, Martin, Soren, and others have some taxonomic features I can look for to ID that would be great. Otherwise, just enjoy the photos.

Sorry for the quality of the photos. Still struggling with the macro function on this digital camera. :wall:

I'm not saying anything definite, but I wouldn't mind betting you bought that as a Vietnamese Bird Eater" or something?

My complete guess, and only because I've been mating them recently, making this a "recognition" thread for me, is the Haplopelma species that has come to be known as Haplopelma sp."Vietnam"

Would you believe the label on the side of the container said, "Vietnamese Bird Eater?" Not bad.

I didn't post that because so many would look up a list and post a corresponding scientific name.

Well, he looks ready to go but I don't have a corresponding female. I am not sure what to do. I also understant that is a "guess" and not a 100% sure ID.

He was in a package of 8 spiders I got for $60 bucks from a guy whose focus is venomous snakes. He doesn't care about spiders and had bought a collection from someone. I did find a T (female) with a white beard and "looking" a lot like H. schmidti. I hope to send an exuvium off to Martin or Volker.

I got a female labeled as Tawny Red. Suspect Hysterocrates sp. but will research taxonomic characters, there were (2) P. lugardis (0.1.1), 0.1.0 H. lividium, 0.1.0 labeled as Haitian Brown but will do some further research, and 0.0.1 Eucratoscelus pachypus (will do some research on taxonomic differences between pachypus and constrictus (any ideas besides size - this one is about 2" or so).

Not bad for $60.

Later,

Lee

Well....in America those "Vietnam Bird Eaters" seem to go for cheap....here's what I would do.

Buy a female. Mate them. When the male dies, send his corpse over to Soren or Volker to confirm the ID. If Spectrum is green and its a "Vietnam" then you have a potential eggsac, if it isn't then any eggsac can go in the freezer and nothing has been lost. :) I'm sure you can trust yourself.

Here is my (now dead) male:

Dude is that Thialand Black??
If you mean a Haplopelma minax, no.

The males look VERY similar though.

I have what is a supposed H.minax and the tibial spurs seem to grow from the side of the leg, growing towards each other.
