I have the opportunity to purchase a 4" female Haplocosmia himalayana for $150. Thing is, this is the first I've ever heard of the species. I'd like to know how others keep them, if someone's got one. They seem to be relatively rare.

I've heard they're an OW terrestrial/fossorial from Nepal. No one can seem to agree whether they're a terrestrial or fossorial species, it seems they can be set up both ways. I've read they don't have a huge moisture requirement, but shouldn't be kept dry either. They have the temperament and speed you'd expect from and Asian OW. Any other details you could give me would be appreciated.

Also, $150 seems like a good price for the girl, but I still want to confirm it's a good deal. Thanks!

I'd keep them like any other terrestrial Asian. Particularly like a Chilobrachys, I believe they like to web.

I think @KezyGLA has kept the genus.

That is a good deal for sure. At 4" she will be adult. They are pricey here in UK fetchingn £70 an adult female. Even more cost in mainland Europe.

They are one of my favourite Asian species.

They are OW fossorial from northern India.
Heavy webbers
Keep relatively moist.
20-28C
Not as high strung as most other Earth Tigers.
Max out around 5"

Do they come out ever or are they reclusive like some other fossorials?

I got mine as a freebie sling (.25") about three months ago. It's molted three times and is getting close to 1". When I first got it I put it in a deli cup until I could set up a Hobby Lobby enclosure, but it webbed the cup up so cool I left it in there until it outgrew it. I re-housed it three days ago and it already has a burrow about three inches deep, and started some foundational webbing. It also spends more time out of the burrow since re-housing.

They spend a lot of time at the mouths of their burrows. This makes it easy for photos :)

I wouldnt say they are pet holes like most of the Asian fossorials. Probably another reason why they are one of my favs

Agreed... IME adults and sub-adults aren't as reclusive as others and have a decent amount of webbing but as slings/juvies they're pet holes.

Absolutely beautiful species. I have yet to pick some up, but I hear you can keep them similar to Chilobrachys. You can choose whether to keep them fossorial or terrestrial. They'll web a lot more if you keep them terrestrially.
