I just got some Halloween hissers and am setting up an acrylic display enclosure for them.
Are 2mm air holes small enough to be escape proof for newborn nymphs?

How big are the newborn nymphs?

I haven't kept cockroaches as most species are illegal where I live. That being said they appear to be similar in width to small cricket. I'd try going a bit smaller for the holes, maybe 0.5mm to 1mm range, but add quite a few of them. What I do is grab various sizes of nail, flame source, and pliers. Set the nail in the pliers and place over flame. Take nail off the flame and use it to make small holes along the sides. Repeat until you are satisfied.

Not familiar with "Halloween" hissing cockroaches, but I do have experience with Madagascar cockroaches and their babies. They're pretty small and have the grip strength to climb glass and acrylic, even as babies. 2mm might be small enough that they can't squeeze through... but if I had a recommendation, I would say put a screen over the vents. When my roaches had babies, I had to seal the tank with duct tape and some of them still got through.

Probably. But you'll see quickly why you want a vaseline barrier to keep them from running right out the top when you open it  Regular hisser newborns wouldn't fit through 2mm anyhow.

The adults will test the vaseline until the nymphs can get past it. Be sure you put at least a 2" wide layer and check it normally. You won't need a lid if you do it correct. If you still have doubts then do as @ozzymandias said and throw a screen on top. Home Depot has mm screen. I myself went topless.

I could never... with my luck something would get in and kill all of mine.
