So I keep making a lot of threads with a lot of questions, which I don’t know is considered annoying or not, but this is pretty important I think.

My young female tan jumping spider Mori has been with me for 12 days now, and she still hasn’t made a nest. She seems to be happy and healthy, she eats well, she climbs and explores a ton, she spins webs to help her get around, but she hasn’t made a nest. She takes naps and sleeps underneath or inside flowers. I am worried is something wrong? She seems totally happy but I’m just making sure.
Here are some pictures of her sleeping without nest 92815474-C9CC-4A09-BC0F-B7F0B7BAF1E1.jpeg C1E442E6-A0D1-41A0-94CA-820D0DD0C033.jpeg F4AFEA12-4CB0-4BD1-9579-D780F2A12E08.jpeg CCBFA035-6381-465F-BE51-5C447A61686E.jpeg 575A1F47-F2AB-4F13-90AD-8140B0894229.jpeg

It’s fine. It will make a molt web when it’s ready. Learn more about the species you’re keeping. They don’t make nests like other spiders

Thanks! I have done a good amount of research on Platycryptus undatus, and I haven’t seen anywhere that they don’t make nests like other jumping spiders. In fact, information about their nests seems to be quite scarce, that’s why I made this post.

Yes, they will make a nest, but when it’s time to molt. Maybe I’m just confused on what you were asking.

It’s alright, maybe I was a little unclear! I was just wondering if she is safe without a nest is all. And now I know she’s fine. Thank you!

Yes she’s fine they will make nests when they are ready mine make little sleeping hammocks all over but their fave spots are always the fake flowers the longer you have her the more webs you’ll see all over. My buggy that past made the jankiest webs they were like strings so when he did molt it looked flimsy so I put a paper towel under him in case he fell during the molt and you’ll know when they molt they won’t come out for a while. If she does molt in the flower it’ll be fine but you can always paper towel under it if your a nervous nilly like my wife and I. From my experience the females make stronger better webs but I’ve only had to males so can’t be sure . Gotta love them cheap fake flowers lmao. That’s my emerald jumper dancing queen pixie spoodie doodie (obv my four year old helped name her )

Still no nest at almost 4 weeks. Could it be temperature related? I live in north Texas so average temperature outside during this time of year is 95°F. However in my house where she is it’s about 74°F during the day and 72°F at night. Do you think it’s too cold? Or maybe it’s better not to be in such heat?

It says they can survive in 70-85 or they can overheat but it depends on where you live and when you google it says spiders produce glycerol like antifreeze in a car so they won’t freeze. I think that your spood will be fine in that temp it’s around the temp I keep my jumpers just make sure you keep misting the sides and don’t over feed or under feed slings eat more frequently 1-3 days juvy around 3-4 and adults weekly. I think you are doing everything right and different spiders are different in behavior and what they like. My p audax stays in a nest she made all the time never comes out just a bit to check the situation and literally just pokes out and has been behaving this way for over a month she is an adult as far as I can tell so she isn’t molting and I see no sack which if she laid one would be infertile as she has molted twice since she came into the home.

Thanks! Also good news! I looked into her cage and noticed she hasn’t wandered around her enclosure today, so I looked and I saw that she is making a nest! It’s in her favorite purple flower to sleep! (maybe it was always there but because she is so small I couldn’t see the silk, but now she is building it up more?) I’m so happy! I have never seen a Jumping spider nest irl so I’m very excited!

This same thing happened to me, I wondered about it but took it as a good sign shes happy with her enclosure and doesn't feel threatened enough to make a nest! Now she spins a few webs over herself here and there but only made a true nest when she laid eggs

The jumpers on the side of my house (Salticus and Attulus) don't make web nests, instead they just wedge themselves in the holes in the plaster on the wall and they see it as safe enough.

I think Mori is in premolt! Hasn’t wandered around the enclosure for 3 days and today. Keeps building up her nest every once and a while. Not the thickest nest like other pictures I’ve seen of molting nests, but judging by all the other signs it’s probably just Mori’s way of making a molt nest. Once Mori molts I think it will be at the stage I can actually tell it’s gender. Luckily the name Mori sounds kind of gender neutral. I’ve just been guessing at this point because it doesn’t have the orange stripe under the eyes that males have, but it could just be too young to have it yet.

Can’t really see nest but it’s in there. Just looks kinda like a blurry area. Could just be because she has super thin silk because she is so small.

Sounds like typical premolt behavior congrats and wedge a paper towel under the flower to catch her softly if she falls my emerald (pixie spoodie doodie)hasn’t left her flower since a while ago. Good luck Mori we are routing for ya!!!!
