Hi guys. Just added 2 H. Swammerdami 2 my small but growing collection. I've searched the net for care sheets but doesn't seem to be much info on them only that they're pretty much the same as P. Imperator but a little less humidity. I'd be grateful if anybody got any tips they want to pass on.

You hit the nail on the head. Keep them similar to most pandinus / heterometrus species. They are very hardy creatures. What size / instar did you receive?

WC specimens so not sure what instar but the biggest one is pretty much full grown as its telson has changed to a deep red, maybe got a another instar the smaller one is approx 2" from head to base of tail and it's telson is on the turn, but an amateurish guess I'd say about 5th instar. I will get some better pics up once they've settled in but here's 1 for now

Nice pictures. I had a 1.1 pair of these a long while back. Mated them, and then the female died shortly after :wall: However the male lived for about two more years after that. Cool species. Mine were pretty active (more so than your typical emp etc.) Enjoy!

I have a few, I couldn't find much info either sounds like the same stuff you found. I researched the weather a little in S. India they are native to though. I think the upper 70's to mid 80'sF is a good temp. But it gets up to 90 in the room they are in over here(Summer), they seem to do fine when it gets hot. It looks like it can get pretty dry where they are from at times, then the monsoon comes. In the few pics I found that people there claim is the environment they are found in, it looks pretty rocky. I've put them together and they seem to put up with each other a lot better than emps, though two males challenged each other for a couple of seconds, that was all.

One of mine is molting as i type this. Just to add on, i keep them only partially damp, half of their deli is dry and the other half is damp. They seem to like it this way. If the substrate looks dry altogether, i just pour some water onto the sub. I mist my swammerdamis once a week, same as my other inverts. I spray water on the sides, on the cap of the deli and on the substrate. So far no problems, both of mine have been through 3 or 4 molts are are still healthy till today. Hope this helps, beautiful swammerdamis u have btw.

well i've put hides in but they're not using them as yet anyway and the smallest one tends to cling on to the front air vent of the exo terra tank so you saying about being rocky it wouldn't do any harm to place a few rocks in. cheers again galapoheros.

Thanks henersoniana. i dampened all the substrate but i can see the benefits of just keeping half damp as its been mentioned it gets quite dry until monsoon weather kicks in, thanks for the advice. oh and i tried checking out your flickr but dont seem to be working?

my next task is to get some pics on here to sex them. i did ask for M and F but a second opinion won't do no harm and knowing which one is which.

CONGRATS...nice looking swammers! I use cork bark pieces for my hides. They seem to like it for they are always under it. I keep one corner of there enclosure damp and the rest dry to. Good luck with them.

Thanks stingray. I've got the obligatory skull hide and 2 half cocoanut shell hides but they don't seem to be using them. I've put some cork bark in now so I'll see how they get in with that.

Well I've just come home from a night shift and they're both under the cork bark,
