well i am beside myself tonight with greif and confusion, my 4"+ female Haplopelma albostriatum has mysteriously died??? she never once ate while i had her (around 3 weeks), but was fat not skinny at all, no signs of internal parasites, i was told she was around 4 years old, her tank was properly kept good humidty and ventilation also kept at temps of 75 degrees and always had fresh water? earlier today i noticed she was keeping front legs flat under her almost curled and it looked strange, a few hours later i noticed all of her legs were curled, i touched her with my index finger she barely responded by wiggling her legs a tiny bit, so i made sure she had fresh water, i placed her fangs near the water, and put her in a warm complety dark and quiet room, when i came back an hour later she was gone(dead) wtf?, also she never used her preburrow or ate the entire time i have owned her, what gives? i mean what the hell could i have done? this pretty much aggravates me seriously because i sold some of my other stuff to buy her, she gonna be frozen and sent to who i originaly bought her from to see if they can determine anything, i checked over her dead body for anything out of place or wrong i see nothing looks perfectly healthy except its not alive, but it just up and dies?well now i have to locate another female(how wonderful) and try to scrape up cash for her which of course will be like 2 months from now(and considering i am an impatient person), nothing could be worse, if this had been my c. shioedtei i think would have had heart attack, anyone that can think of a logical explantion please let me know and share, thanks--Jeff

Well Jeff maybe it was just her time to go. The one thing about buying adult tarantulas is that unless the person before you raised it fom a sling, or was told by the person from who he/she bought it from, then there is no way of telling how old a Specimen was. I wouldn't kick yourself over it, because it sounds like you did all you could.

I've a lot about the Albostriatum, Aureostriatum and Schmidti being hard to 'acclimatise' as adults.

My Lividum behaved in the same way, it didn't even reside into he rburrow until two weeks later, I actually emailed the guy saying I thought it may die just incase it did.

These species of Haplopelma though require a lower temperature to replicate the winter periods, and due to this require a drier upper layer of soil yet a damper lower layer. If you didn't have this it could of caused it's death, thoguh I really doubt it. A lot of the "keeping guidlines" arn't as strict as some make out...

My albostriatum is a fast, feisty, voracious eater. She dug her own burrow and is very active. Was your's WC or CB? Parasites could be one option or old age. If she wasn't too active when purchased it might be old age. Sorry to hear about your loss.
