I have had this S. Subspinipes for a few months now and it is lazy, fat and won't eat going on 3 weeks or so. I am wondering if it is going to shed or might be gravid? My other centipedes always dug under before shedding but this one is just always sleeping on top under a half round log I removed for this photo. I have never had a centipede lay eggs so this is new to me.

No color change that I noticed anyway. The guy I bought it from said it killed an adult mouse and ate half of it a week or so before I bought it. I would not have done that but maybe it is still full from that. I will put in an adult cricket tonight and remove it if it is still there in the morning. I just did not know how fat a pede gets before laying eggs .

Thanks again,
Bob

Mine do the same thing.
It'd be cool if it was gravid. I've got a haitian giant that laid eggs a couple months back. The babies have since 'hatched', and so far, so good.
It's certainly a very cool thing to have happen. Let's just hope you got lucky and purchased a gravid female.

LOL!!!

Bob:

I'm going to be looking to sell these soon. They are no longer gathered up on the mothers sternites, which I take as a good sign. But at the same time, they do not seem quiet 'independant' yet. They are all huddled together in a little 'burrow' the mother has made under the water dish.
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that they will soon be ready to be separated. Once that happens, I'll post something here for anyone who is interested in buying.
Since you asked first, I'll make sure you get one (or more) if you want it.

It's tough to say how many I have because they are all in this little burrow underneath the waterdish and thus, obscured from view.
My really rough estimate is about 20.
So far 5 have died. What happened to them is this: The mother - with babies still crawling on her - moved from above the waterdish to underneath the waterdish. While moving herself underneath the dish, those 5 babies were forced off of her, as died as a result of that shortly after.

No Centipedes at the Portland show but three giant Haitians...........just had to have one.
I don't have ant Vanatua's but check out the almost black one for sale at WWW.Invertepet.com. Bill has alot of Centipedes. I was in his town last July and I tried to call him but no answer. I probably would have bought on if he was there.

Oh ...there were two Texas vinagarunes but did not look healthy so I did not buy one.
