Anyone into them? I'm getting my first pair on Thursday. Also, I was wondering if there are any boards dedicated to L. alterna.

I have a female I purchased as a hatchling in 2002. She is a beautiful animal but rather boring in my opinion. My Honduran milk has way more "personality" and my carpet pythons blow both away when it comes to interactiveness.

They were one of my favorite colubrids and if I decide to venture from lizards any more, I'll probably acquire some gray bands again. They were very easy to care for and breed, but the babies were a pain to get feeding on pinks. In my opinion, they are one of the best colubrids to keep. Small adult size, easy going temperaments, great colors on many of the blairs, and easy to keep. You'll have to post pictures once you get them. There is an alterna forum on kingsnake if I remember correctly.

I've got a female, really neat snakes. I grabbed her off the road when it was still legal to do so here in tx. She is not calm at all though! She never has calmed down, got worse! Most are very calm though. She vibrates her tail and strikes all the time. She seemed fine when I first found her. But right after I let a friend look at her and seemed a little rough with her when he was trying to see what sex she was, she seemed to go bitey on me after that but that excuse doesn't make a lot of sense.

+1 on the pinky difficulty as babies! i used to hang out in my buddy's pet store and work with his tough feeding snakes and grey bandeds were the worst!

They arrived today! The guy even included a deli with a bunch of baby feeder lizards! Also, there was a CD with a couple pics of them on it. Here they are!

Here's the female.

And the male.

I'm definitely going to try to get them on pinkies as soon as possible. I don't think I'll be able to catch lizards all winter! I heard if they don't take rodents after they hatch, you can allow them to brumate and they'll take rodents as soon as they come out of it. If I can't get them on pinkies before winter, I'll just do that.

A nice peppered pattern on that one, the color and pattern is very diff depending on where they are found. I think they look more like that around the Presidio, Terlingua area in tx. But people breed them from diff areas, never know. I'd like to find somebody that has a male from where I found my female and try to get some babies.
