I was wondering if anyone is keeping Lampropeltis alterna? I would like to purchase one but have heard that when young, it can be difficult to get them to feed regularly. I raised a 7 inch california kingsnake into a 4 1/2 foot adult without any problems. Any experiences, photos, etc. would be appreciated.

I have raised several of these. I found that they weren't any harder to start feeding on pinkies (I'm assuming thats what you are going to feed them) than other species. I'd recommend just scenting the pinky with different prey until you find the one that works. After a few feedings mine were taking them without any trouble.

I never really did any "scenting" with my current california kingsnake. I would indeed be feeding pinkies. What type of scenting did you use and how was it applied?

I usually use anoles but other lizard species work. On occasions where I couldn't get them feed from reptile scented prey I used birds.
