Here is a quick shot of two Aru type green tree pythons. The photo is from when I began cycling them late last year. The female is getting bigger and bigger. I am hopeful that she will lay a clutch shortly! Enjoy. :)

The female is three years old. She is also the start of my Green Tree obsession. She was captive bred by an Arizona breeder. I don't have any wild caught or imported chondros. I'm too phobic about parasites. :)

That sounds ideal. Lets hope she can handle her "first time" pressure. :) Beautiful animals.

Sweet! You will have lots of fun with it. You might even pick up a few more by the end of the year. They are highly addictive. :) Please share some photos of your GTP when you have a chance. I'd love to see it.

Snake newb question. Are they handable at all?
Personally, I don't handle them much. I'm not anti-handle, I just generally don't handle them. I know some keepers that handle most of their collection on a regular basis. I would recommend an Aru type to someone that wants to hold their snake occasionally. They seem to have a more docile demeanor overall. The Biak types tend to be more defensive than many. There are exceptions to everything, but that is a general rule of thumb. There are several other types that lie somewhere in between the Arus and Biaks. You would have to approach ease of handling on a case by case basis.

I'd recommend an older animal if you really want one to hold. I don't hold any of them if they are under a year or so in age. I even stretch that a bit and don't handle them at all for several mojnths past a year. They have very fragile vertebrae that can be damaged with improper/rough handling. That damage can show up later in the snakes life in the form of spinal kinks.

I currently have several chondros. Most of them I don't worry about when doing cage maintenance. I can handle the older ones with no problem. However, I do have one that is completely PSYCHO. You will be bitten if you put your hand near it. Anything in his path will also be bitten. I don't worry about the pain of the bites too much. My cat has drawn more blood on me than any snake has. I'm more worried that the snake will hurt itself when striking at me. I only do his cage maintenance during the day. I would advise against attempting to handle one at night. They are more alert at night. This particular chondro is so defensive that you cannot walk by his cage at night or he will thump the glass.

The above is probably more than you cared to ever know about them. I could drone on and on about them even longer. I'm a chondro dork. :)

Below is another chondro. I couldn't resist! This is a captive bred animal of mixed ancestry. Enjoy!

Hey guys, Just thought I'd post a pic of the Green Tree I got for my Girlfriend for Christmas. It's Wamena and i got him/her from undergroundreptiles.com

This was when he first came in, and still in the cup he was shipped in, he's in a bigger setup now.

Okitasoshi,

Beautiful snake you have there. My daughter has a nice little red baby that looks a lot like yours. The color change is almost agonizingly slow for the red babies. We are both anxious to see how it turns out.

Lelle,

Thank you! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much in case it doesn't pan out. It is still fun to see the breeding process. I'll be twice as excited next season even if this season is a bust.

I am actualy enjoying your indeph Opinion GQ gave me what I was looking for, I have a Corn snake myself, I haven't really dived into the herp world at all but these are breathtaking snakes, and while not overly wanting to say carry one around for a day, I dont want to have to worry about getting a finger broken or a hurt snake as you said from a phsyco. I do very much agree it boils down to a personal snake level but sometimes guidelines can apply! Thank you once more I will have to look into these animals more indepth

It's always nice to see different pairings Mike. I completely missed the update the first time around. I'm really streaky on the boards and miss some good stuff. Thanks for sharing the link. Please share those baby photos when they start pipping!
