Ok so my wolf spider which I caught 4 days ago has laid a greenish blue gray egg sac and is carrying it around. Is there any reason why it should be green? One of my other spiders has laid a normal white one. I’ll include pictures of both. But if anyone knows why it’s green please let me know!😃 image.jpg image.jpg

I’m also not sure exactly what kind of wolf spiders they are so if anyone can tell me that too I would greatly appreciate it.

Hm maybe the one with the white egg sac is some kind of Trochosa? Sorry, I’m by no means an expert at all

Oh cool thanks. I’ve never seen a green egg sac but I guess it just happens. I’ve tried googling the brown spider too. Couldn’t find a name either.

Yup the one with the white sac looks to be a Trochosa species and the one with the green is probably Pardosa.

That emerald sack is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. They are always a brilliant white, which is nothing to balk at. But they are always white. That crispy emerald is gorgeous!

Wow, you just said "looks like Throchosa" I google Throchosa, theres like 60 ish species and wikipedia not really giving pics for most... Do you have a book or glossary or encyclopedia with identification for like ALL species??

I do not, but Trochosa is fairly distinct.

Trochosa species usually have a light cardiac mark and two lines on the cephalothorax. Here is a photo from BugGuide showing all the key characteristics.

I have circled the parts I am referring to.

There are only two species of Trochosa in BC, but you have to look at their genitals to tell them apart.
