Green/Blue Emperors?

 Hey guys, I've seen a couple of pics of Emperor scorpions a very deep, green color. Some have also looked more on the blue side. At first I assumed this was because of a blacklight, but my assumption was quickly shot down when I saw other pics of these green emps right next to the typical black colored ones. Are these a specific breed available or are they just "freaks of nature"?

If you post some of the pics, we might be able to throw out some better answers. As for blueish/greenish scorps next to regular colored ones, it's possible the image was altered. I mess with pics of my scorpions all the time in Photoshop.

This is my male Imp. I have female of same color. The image was not altered in any way. They really are greenish color. I think they are also a bit bigger than the regular black Imps.

Under regular light, and some camera flashes, the fluorescent properties of the scorpion appear, and they'll glow a faint greenish-blue color, like they would under a black light. The effect won't be as strong as if under a direct black light, but it'll still give them that tinge.

These scorpions aren't any different from any other P. imperator. They just appear to have a different color due to the lighting.

Oh wow, that's pretty cool. Thanks for the info guys! I'm glad I don't have to go out and try to find some sort of rare breed to get such a cool color!

BTW, Hasek and Aztek...those are some great pics!! Thanks for postin' 'em.

there are some "breeds" that have different coloration, for example Heterometrus cyaneus is reported to have a bluish tint to it.

you might want to brush up on your terminology, I would suggest picking up the Gary Polis book !

Thanks for the suggestion tabor, I think I might just do that. Readin' through the forum has left me :? scratching my head at some of the scientific terms used.

Remember people, spiders and scorps have copper atoms which can give a green or blue hue. Just like whe you spot light them at night ,thier eyes are green or blue
