Great loss

My avian rehabber and well known "bird lady" Ann Young has died at 63 yrs of age. This is a great loss to the world of birds as she was THE care taker of hundreds of wild injured and sick birds. Originally from Scotland Ann was an eccentric individual who had a uncanny ability to detect the ailings of the birds that were brought to her. She was gruff but had a unique sense of humor that I could appreciate. Another unfortunate thing is there really is nobody that can take her place. The birds, some unreleasable are trying to be placed in various places by friends, but the future of wild bird rehab is in peril because there are very little if any, licensed avian rehabbers in this area.

Ann Young was light in the storm for injured birds, and now she is with her winged children who have passed soaring high and free.

What an incredible loss.

Our local "bird/animal Lady" had to close up her rehab a few years ago; due to failing health... Ever since then; there is nowhere to take the babies and adults that the law will not allow us civilians to doctor, ourselves. The vets aren't even allowed to treat them - even if one is willing to pay their bill. It's very disheartening.

I'm sorry not only for the loss of your personal friend, but also for the animals who no longer have a "Guardian Angel" to go to when they are in need.....

Thanks calum, Its tough, some went to my other rehabber, some went to Ann's assistant but we are trying to place flightless crows, Jays, cardinals and more =not looking good, Im working my butt off trying to find fosters.
