My Grammostola sp. Concepcion mature male has moulted again - only a year after he matured. I need some information, please.
He has lost one leg. His fangs look intact. The only problem that I have is that neither of his pedipalps shed. In the first photo, you can see that there is some exoskeleton that could possibly block his mouth, which I managed to cut off as much as possible. The second photo is after I did that. I cannot safely cut any more of the pedipalp exoskeleton up in order to try to remove them.
Here is what I need to know. He doesn't seem to be able to maneuver his pedipalps. At this point I have to assume that they are not going to help him eat. He has hardened up, so I am also assuming that he is not going to autotomize them either. Has anyone encountered this before? Were they able to eat with the pedipalps still intact? Did they pull them off at a later date, long after they hardened up?
Thank you.

I think I have an answer, let me just ask a question for clarification that I found confusing in your post: Has the tarantula already done its ultimate molt?

Yes, she said it was a mature male that molted again.

I find this interesting because a few weeks ago I was asking about what causes a tarantula to mature out as a male and have their ultimate molt. This male molting again defies being mature not molting again.

The subject line indicates that he has performed a 'Post Ultimate Moult' and I also mention in the body of the post that the has moulted again after maturing only about a year ago. This is a mature male who has moulted again after maturing in October of 2019.
It is not unusual for males from the group of Grammostola considered "Chilean Rose Hairs" to perform a post ultimate moult and they will often survive the process where other species will not.
I'm not sure what answer you could have if you didn't understand the question. My question is whether or not he can eat with the old exoskeleton still attached to his pedipalps and whether people have experienced that they will autotomize the pedipalps long after they have hardened up. Any answers would have required that you understood what has happened here.

I had a mature male E. campestratus perform a post ultimate molt and survive (though he died a couple months later) Not sure about the eating bit because mine never ate anything and just died after a while. Also didnt have the same problem with getting stuck palps. Really cool to see someone else experience something similar

Poor old man. I hope he's okay.

I gotta say tho, I am mildly disturbed by the little dribble coming out of his embolus. I don't wanna kink shame the little man, but this is hardly the time for THAT.
