I haven't even had this little (big) guy a year. He hooked out today. I took a few pictures through the molting process. He just flipped back over so he's all scrunched up in the corner. I'll get some pictures of him in a week or so after he's had a chance to harden up again.

This was taken in January of this year, right when I got him.

And the rest of these pictures are from today.

I was really surprised to see how much the claws stick out at the end of each leg.

Here's a picture of the old exoskeleton on my protractor. It's safe to say he's well over 6" now!

Key words: mature, male, MM, M.M., grammostola, aureostriata, chaco, golden, gold, knee, tibial, hooks, ultimate, molt, molting

Damn! He grew fast as hell! I still have my little female, she molted twice since I got her and I don't really see a difference.

Also, for anyone that's interested, the dates of his molts and approximate leg spans:
He was about 1.5" when I got him...
02/09/2008 - about 2.25"
03/17/2008 - about 3"
05/19/2008 - about 3.75"
07/09/2008 - about 4.5"
10/01/2008 - about 5.5"
12/24/2008 - ???

A few more pics of his hooks and one of his boxing gloves:

He was sexed from his first molt in my care. The exoskeleton that I used was 1.5" in legspan.

I have a Kodak V1253 point and shoot. It's also the camera I use to record the HD (720p) videos you see on YouTube. I got a magnetic macro lens off of ebay to help with the macro shots, but it's only like...2x magnification or something. It allows me to use the 4x optical zoom to get really close though, and it's a 12MP camera.

I want a DSLR real bad, but they are expensive. Mine was only $130 shipped.

That's awesome! I was actually just getting ready to make a post about my female G.aureo that just molted yesterday. I measured the molt and it came out to just over 7" :} She looks great, all fresh and new and so does yours. Congratulations. Oh, by the way, I just stepped into the DSLR world with a new Nikon and I can sefely say that I won't own another point and shoot except for maybe just a backup or little things, this thing is amazing! You will not be disappointed if you decide to take the plunge

Nice pics!!! When you originally got him were you hoping for a male or did you not care?

I didn't care too much. I kinda wanted a female though. My friend gave him to me, but the person he got him from thought it was a female. He was my first tarantula
