Got these guys today, pretty impressive. About 7 cm long! I am going on a beetle/snake hunt tomarow see what i can get pictures of, hopefulyl it doesn't rain. Not sure what teh scientific or english name is of these....lost it.

Also got myself a couple Dorcus titanus sitka (sp?). I find them more fun personally but not as striking. I hope to experiment with breeding these guys.

enjoy :)

tis very start ship troopers...except the dorcus doesnt snap me in half...they are pretty damned strong though, made one of the kids bleed.

randolph, it is very large! first hing that came out of my mouth was HUN DA! biggest beetle i have ever seen. actually since i have been here there have been quite a few firsts or biggests or coolest etc.

only found 1 beetle today, was green/clack with yellow legs couldnt get a pic cause it was in a hole in a tree. also saw lots of millipedes and a centipede that was all black, or maybe dark red? moved to fast to get a good look. hopefully it will rain less tomarow and we can go out for a good look.

the nepthews have about a dozen d titanus now. read up on breeding a bit, so i will give that a try. but seems to take a couple years to pupate. More pics tomarow :)

thansk fo rth kind words, taiwan has some pretty f'in cool bugs....cant wait to visit some more of asia!

evil cheshire....i lived in canada my entire life...i think my wait is over. I was always saying to you americans "I wish we had that in canada!" so you know what? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! :D

o_O... You are lucky!
I love that Dorcus. European D. parallelopipedus has only 20 - 30 mm... and much smaller mandibles.

yes they are biggies...i love how out of proportion their head and body is. some individuals moreso than others.
