Awhile back read a post about someone showing their wife a pretty blue T, A. versicolor. Well my wife is now a T newbie.
We ordered a pretty blue T today and we should get it in a couple of days.
So guys if you want to get your girl involved dont use the little blue pill, use the pretty blue T.
Got another one on the way to being bitten.

There needs to be a way to get our non-arachnid-loving husbands involved, as well. He admitted the A. versicolor was cute, at least, but he still won't look at them without cringing, lol.

My wife was the same way and in some respect she still is however she's coming over to the T side.

What I did was inundate her with information regarding T's. She, like most, were confused and misled by movies, culture, etc about T's and once she realized how docile most can be, quite and clean she's really taken a liking to my new hobby.

Throw in a few older mammalian pets that have been having health issues and constant upkeep and she gives me the thumbs up on spiders more and more each day..

Use information to teach and dispel any myths is my way on just about anything. With enough information in hand and how to properly care/handle these beasts I think anyone will quickly overcome their fear and in some cases hatred of spiders, or anything they find they have a phobia against

Good luck!

My wife was completely opposite when i got busy with spiders. It was my first tarantula (B.smithi) molt, that made her to change mind. She was completely impressed from what was seeing and later on, she confessed to me, that the whole scene, reminded her, the moments of her children births.

Since then, i found an ally in her, even if, she is still unwilling to help me in the spider works.

I feel for you guys but with Matthias and I it was the opposite way. I wanted a T for years after meeting a friend's G. rosea. I mentioned it to him in one of our talks and he got one for me for our anniversary.
He didn't mind her but had no interest in her. I, of course, got more, and he became hooked over time, and is now as interested in the hobby as I am.

it doesn't take a little A. versicolor sling to do this.
when our daughter came and wanted a t a few years ago, my wife went "are you nuts" :D
i caught a tegenaria atrica and put her in a kk, soon after she was like, well it isn't as terrible as i always thaught :)

now some years later we keep a bunch of tarantulas, scorpions and other things that most people would call the exterminator for :D

Cool to hear. My boyfriend used to absolutely hate spiders - thought they were actually out to get him since he kept waking up wit bites. I showed him my jumping spiders and then later the baby tarantulas. He thinks they're rather pretty.

Just let your wife know that avics have a rocket launcher in their behinds. ;P

I got my fiancee into it without the intention of doing it, haha. She kind of just fell right in when we moved in together and she fell in love with my immature male Brachypelma albopilosum. He hung out beside her computer and she would just watch him and then one day she asked to feed him, and then a few weeks later she held him. Then she ordered a G. pulchra and C. darlingi (talk about jumping right in) and it's been a slippery slope ever since. It's funny cause I think if it weren't for her I would have just stopped at the 5 I had and kept them until they passed and that would be it. Now we have 52...and it's always her who's like "I know we said we'd stop after our last order, but..." We actually only got our versi about 3 months ago and it's insane. Everytime we open it's home to feed or mist, one of us ends up with it on our backs.
