alright so my corny is refusing to eat so today i decided to switch it up with an anole. tried for two hours straight then gave up. so i put it in a really large critter keeper. he has a shallow water bowl which, at the time of me writing this, he is soaking in. he also has a whole side with nothing but leafy heaven. he is a brown anole and i would like some care info. my room temp is 80 degrees and i fed him a small cricket. he is actually pretty mellow. pretty jumpy and definatley healthy. thanks in advance :)

I live in MS where the green anoles are native, the brown anoles have similar care.
Usually just provide them with a 10 gallon tank and they're set for life.

One thing that is annoying about anoles is they do not like to drink from standing water, so either mist the enclosure or invest in a fountain, (they'll gladly drink from running water plus it will had the humidity (around 70-80 percent) they desire)

80 degrees is a fine ambient temperature, but provide a basking spot that is preferably a bulb with UVB output, or he will quickly succumb to MBD. (mercury vapor bulbs provide the best output of UVB, UVA, and heat) if you live somewhere warm though you can just put him outside for his sunshine. (there is some statistic that says a day of natural sun exposure is better than 3 weeks of artificial) do not quote me on that but it is very beneficial. Also provide him with a cool retreat to escape the heat of the lamp or sun.

As for feeding crickets are fine just not any bigger than his head. They love moths so if you let some wax worms metamorph he will greatly appreciate the moths. Mealworms can be difficult for them to eat but you can always try some small ones, and even some flightless fruitflies won't go amiss. Just like any animal, anoles benefit from variation in their diet. Occasionally dust the prey with a vitamin and calcium powder too.

Your plants are perfect for a natural escape, they are an arboreal species and very much enjoy being off the ground. Cocofiber is a good substrate, but if you wanted to get elaborate they would love a well planted live plant terrarium with organic soil.

Lastly if he is a male get him a couple girlfriends, they're very enjoyable to observe interacting with their own species. Just remember the more lizards the more space necessary. But 3 should happily fit in a 10 gallon.

That is the basics for them, they're a pretty easy lizard and definitely enjoyable pets. Remember to be gentle with his tail, cause he'll drop it if threatened, and then it will grow back shorter and discolored. Overall though good luck with your new anole, he will be a good pet :)

well i thank both of you for the answers. she is a brown anole (i have determined wich sex) and she is currently shedding. every time i mist she runs to the leaves nd starts drinking. my question is the light. i dont get payed for another week and a heat lamp would melt the plastic and i think would melt her. the heat lap for my snake gets like 85 on its middle setting and almost 100 on its top setting. i dont want her hurt and i dont have money right now for a new cage for her. any other suggestions?

If two enclosures are "squeezed" together...could one heat lamp heat one end of each...?

Could a small "undercage" heater be obtained affordably?

Any other ideas,anybody...?

Well you could try a heat pack but those are kinda just a shipping staple or if your willing to get em on a regular basis. But that wouldn't even matter if youre animal is of a larger variety.

Im thinking of building her her own little cage setup with lots of green and a water fall.
