Picked-up a little Pinktoe last Sunday. Seems to be docile & even easily handle-able, but can run like lightning if you actually manage to startle it.

Reading here has led me to think that there are a couple types of pinktoe, is that right? And if so. Can anyone tell me what one I've got. The pet store folks told me that it had molted a few days to a week before I bought it, but for now it's got awesome metallic colors on many parts of it's body. The bottoms of it's feet are green, tops of legs are blue, and carapace has green too. Reds & yellows can be seen on legs also when the light is right. Absolutely beautiful! Too bad they don't really show-up in the pics.

So can anyone give a positive ID?
I'd like to know sex too, but at perhaps an inch and a half from head to spinnerets it might be to small to tell.

Hi DHunter,
I'm quite new to tarantulas myself, only being in the hobby about a month... and I already have 6.. :D From the description and the photos you've provided of your little fella, I'd say you have an Antilles Pinktoe, or an Avicularia versicolor. Regular Pinktoe tarantulas are a bluish-black metallic with little pink booties on their feet (and they're so cute) but Antilles Pinktoe tarantulas are a beautiful blend of vibrant colours: red, violet, green and blue, and the spiderlings are a solid metallic blue. It sounds like you have an Antilles beginning to show its adult colours - gorgeous!! I'm pretty sure that's what you've got, but try Googling avicularia versicolor just to see what you find. You might find a picture of a similar-looking juvi :) I hope this helps!

Looks like A. Avicularia to me. And if you got it in a pet store (since breeders would use scientific names, ill assume you did, correct me if im wrong though), most of the time Pinktoes in pet stores are A. Avics.

As for sex, im not very good at sexing and sexing from photos like that (when compared to sexing from a molt) is notoriously harder, so I cant help you there but some of teh more experienced members here might be able to.

Yep I think you've pegged it & stooka's pic is a dead ringer too.
Thanks all! :worship:

I'm glad it's such a mellow little thing because he's still putting up with me rearranging the enclosure and such.
Now I've got a hollow half-log hide & a grapevine wood jungle gym that he seems to like. This has replaced the leafy vine I had tried first which he avoided like the plague.

I've also got the temp maintaining at 80F with the daytime light & 75F with the night light. Just having trouble keeping humidity above 65% without misting several times a day. I'm still reading & trying different things though:D
