im just about to get three different types of trapdor spider that are going in the same tank(with dividers obviosly) but want them to burrow by the glass so i can see all three!
do i have to partially dig a hole for them to start burrowing there or do they choose where they feels best???
any advice would be great as id hate them to burrow where i cant see them as i want them as a cool display in my room!

If you wanted a display animal, you've bought the wrong pets! Even if you start the burrow off at the side of the tank, they will soon web up the glass so you can't see in. Either way, you end up with a hole in the ground that rarely opens. I had one for a while and i never even got to see it feed, the crickets would just disappear overnight. Probably the most boring invert pet i've ever had.

i havent got them yet i might make my own tank like 12'' x 4'' x 12'' i think that will increase my chances of seeing them!

i read a good article on atshq.org, but can't find it now

the gist is this:

take two jars that can nest inside of each other. put the smaller jar inside the larger jar, and fill the difference with your dirt. this difference area is where the spider will live. since what you end up with is a cylindrical shell of dirt, the chance of the spider burrowing by the glass goes up astonomically.

the thing is this: even if it initially *does* burrow by the glass, apparently a lot of spiders will web over the "window" if too much light gets in, so you have to make like a paper door on the outside of the large jar. you can cover the window, then open it when you want to look at spider, hopefully.

you can try to find orig article, which was like ~500-1000 words

Was I the only one who caught that part?? I had one for short while as well...I would still consider one but I wouldn't waste my time constructing some kind of special tank so I could see them cause that view wouldnt last long...
