We went out sunday looking for Tadpoles and salamanders and found the prettiest gopher snake Ive ever seen. It had pink spots on its tummy!!! Very colorful, and of course, the camera didnt pick up all the pinks and reddish browns on it very well. What shocked me was it didnt try to bite me or musk me!! Thats a first with gophers for me :D This boy was about 36 inches long and VERY fat!!
Enjoy!

oh wow :) I had a gopher snake years and years ago (first snake I'd ever had) but sadly it died before it got anywhere near that size

Great find. :) Gopher snakes are a fine cornerstone to any herpers diet. They are always a treat to see. Did you find any salamanders on the trip?

cool find! I don't think I have ever seen a WC gopher snake that did not have attitude in spades! I have one in the garage now that I took out of the dashboard AC/heater ductwork of a police cadet van at work. I have no idea how it got in there either!

GQ---alas...no salamanders NOR tadpoles to be found :( the pond we usually go to is dry this year. DARN the drought!!! The gopher snake was a great treat though, especially because it was so docile!!

Good looking gopher there and I have to agree it's quite odd that it was as calm as you describe. All the WC Pits I've come across have been a tad easy to upset to say the least.
