Well me and my wife were at our friends pet store tonight and they said they would trade us 1 male & 1 Female Red Tail Boa for our 5 ft Female Ball Python.

What do you all think is this a good deal???

And keep in mind we had the Python since it was a hatchling.

well, i'm not too sure if you've had any boas or not... but I think its a great opportunity, and possibly a sad situation as well. On one hand, with the male and female boas, you could possibly breed them. But it also sucks to see a pet go, especially if you've had it for quite some time, as in your case. But one thing to consider is size. i dont think its a thing that somebody could tell you to do. its a decision that will take some time. goodluck though

I prefer Boas personally. Take a look at the regular market and the condition of the animals they are willing to trade. I wouldn't doubt that Fem ball pythons have risen in price.

I may have missed it, but how big are the boas? If they are just babies, I wouldn't do that trade. You could do a LOT better at a reptile show with the ball. A buddy of mine always says "Which one woud you get if they were all free?" I like boas because they are big and so calm its strange, lol. If they are a good sized pair of red tails, go for it. I'd say you could get a lot better from a reptile show if you have a 5 ft female ball for trade, you may even get some het for albino boas heh.

Adult female BP's have risen in price due to the fact breeders are using them in morph breeding. Its the quickest and cheapest way to do things when working with a lot of the co-dom and dom traits. I have seen some pretty high priced adult normal female BP's. You can get your average normal RTB's for about 100 each for babies. I would not take the deal unless you really just perfer boas. If thats the case sale the BP and buy boas. Cash/trade value on a female BP is not the same for 2 common boas.

I'd do the trade, but then again BPs arent really my bag, and I like Redtails.

Ditto...agreed 100%. Even an adult pair of proven breeder Boas (assuming we're talking about normal-phase Colombian Boas) is not worth 1/2 as much as a breeding size/age female Ball Python.
