Hey, I'm currently new to the arachnoboards but I have found such a deep love for all the funky little creatures on here. I have been researching and honestly debating on purchasing a jumping spider. As a future and first time spooder parent, I want to make sure I can provide the best way of life for my little friend. I have done an insane amount of research over the last year and have finally decided I would like to bring one home. As, I will be a first timer I would like to purchase a captive bred spider in order to avoid any fertile egg sacks. I would prefer a tan, female regal jumping spider but I am having a hard time finding a good breeder. I am currently living in Houston, Texas. Please share any good breeders you know!! Thank you so much guys!

You'd be hard pressed to find one. Most of the ones in the trade are wild caught, and most of the babies are from sacs that wild caught females dropped. The babies are extremely small, poor eaters, and time consuming to raise. I had around 90, sold some, gave some away, and none of the ones I had made it to adult hood. That 90 was half the sac, and the person who kept the remainder also was unsuccessful at raising them. It's possible, but they are tough. Your best bet might be just to find a male outside and keep him if that's legal in your area.

Thanks so much and yeah I will consider it! I'm actually looking for another beginner spider if I can find any jumping ones. Any recommendation?

Please be aware that because of the habitat required for P. regius, (Humid and hot: Florida, Caribbean etc.) P. regius isn’t as recommended for beginners. Although if you do a lot of research (which you have), and take it very seriously, go for it. I’ve seen some people buy P. regius for a lot of money and treat them poorly, not even knowing what molting is, or that they need humidity. They are easy pets to keep. But only after you know how to keep them properly! 😁

I’m sure you are fully capable of taking care of them.
If you do decide to do a wild one though, we have many beautiful species here in Texas! You can make a post on here to have its age and species identified.
