Hi all,
I have a Goliath Bird Eater who over the last few days had developed pink patches on her abdomen. It looks like a layer of brown felt on her abdomen is peeling away and exposing just bare exoskeleton underneath- doesn’t look like she just shot hairs and has a bald patch. I got her as an adult about 10 years ago, she has always had the darker brown discoloration on the back end of her abdomen that you can see in the pic. Any ideas what’s going on with her? Thanks!

Why is that substrate so dry? But other than that, it's normal to kick hairs.

If you don’t know about urticating hair, it’s worth taking some time to read about this species. They need it moist and are known to have some of the worst setae and are quick to use it

Well... if OP has indeed have it for over 10 years, it is probably fine. Maybe just very lightly wet a corner of the enclosure and observe the behaviour if she wants more moisture.

It might be kicking more hairs because it’s not kept properly on deep moist substrate. So I would correct this ASAP.

It's just a bald patch from kicking off urticating setae, the white fuzz around the bald patches is clumps of dislodged setae.

Just kicking urticating hairs. Is this your first new world because it’s very common. Here is an example of my x Immanis 927099B9-C0A3-4FE3-AECA-0F589EDB04F7.jpeg
