Hello... I think I found my Golden Gliding Frogs looking like they were possibly thinking about love.

I have three that I purchased in October of 2005. I didn't get the scientific name when I picked them up at the Hamburg Show and searches on the internet have not lead me to any kind of id. All I really know is that they appear to be some type of medium (2 - 3" bodies) size tree frog. If I didn't have so much school work to finish tonight I would post a picture but that really will have to wait until at least tomorrow.

Just a few minutes ago I went over to their tank to see them (they hide all day) and saw the smallest one wrapped around one of the larger one's back. It looked like the classic frogs mating on the edge of water. They were hanging off the side of their small waterfall.

Now I'm concerned that their set up is not conducive to breeding ~ I hadn't been thinking that this was a possibility until I just noticed the hugging frogs. They are in a 15 gallon tall tank. There is a 2" layer of smooth pebbles covered by a layer of live green moss. A cork bark hide rests against the back wall and coconut fiber mat is attached to the same back wall as dry places for them. They spend most of their time either hidden within the moss or clinging to the glass up around the lid. A small Exoterra waterfall provides them with most of their water. There is no other water bowl.

I was hoping that with all the reptile people around here, some of you would also be into amphibians and have some ideas. I don't think the waterfall would be a suitable place to lay eggs due to the pump that keeps that water circulating. From where they are right now, any eggs that may be released would be landing in the moss anyway (I can't see if that is happening due to their position).

Its too late for me to make any adjustments for tonight but with the start of spring just around the corner and them appearing to be in love, maybe I can make some changes to encourage reproductive success. Oh... more than half an hour later they are still embracing one another.

Thanks for your help, Cheri

The problem may be a name change I came up with both Rhacophorus leucomystax and Polypedates leucomystax

thanks for some possible names

Thanks for the possible names. That should help me in my search. I think at least my male is pretty serious about his reproductive attempt. He is still riding on her back. Everytime I check them, he is there and its been almost 24 hrs...

I'm tempted to put in a shallow dish of water but them I'm also worried about it becoming stagnant... maybe a little airstone... I think I need to find a frog board!
