I bought 5 small nymphs (Hormetica subcincta) a little over a year ago. Wouldnt you know it, they were ALL female (NOT complaining!! I usually get all males) I thought by buying 5 I would get at least one of each sex... Not in my life time!! So I bought me a rather large male nymph at the arachnocon in July.

I just decided to dig them up and see how things were going!! I found a mature male and a mature female YAY!!!

Had to show pics :D Im so excited.. I put one of the nymphs in as well so you can see what they look like in all phases.

Congratulations! I have three small nymphs that I bought a few months ago. And when I say small I mean small. I think they are the second slowest growing roaches I have, only surpassed in slowness by my Thereas, of which I also only have three so far. So it took a whole year to mature? Crap.

I have only a mature male of that species. My female kicked the bucket months ago, I think of old age.

Anyone want to do a 50/50? ;)

How do you care for these guys? Are they glass climbers? I haven't seen much information on them.

I have been keeping these at a low temp because all I had were females. Since I got the male Ive put them in a cage where its 90 degrees on one side and about 80 on the cool side.
They seem to be growing a lot faster now.
I keep them on a peatmoss/sand mixture with the cool side moist and the hot side dry. I feed them on a plastic lid to keep the food off of the dirt as they like to bury the food and it gets to smelling. I offer them dried leaves (oak) as well. They dont eat them, but like to hide among them. I give all my roaches oak leaves, some eat them, most hide in them.

hello oldhag..

i feed them similar to u that use post soil/sand/dry leaves mixture..they love to dig very much, so.........i always cant c them unless i check up the bottom of the substrate...i also feed oak leaves and i know they will eat it.

Congrats! I can't tell you how many times the fate of a colony in my collection would rest on one male, but one male will do the job.

Glow spots are very romantic when it comes to mating behavior, so keep an eye on them if you can. If you can put some pieces of old tree bark flat on the surface, that's usually where they like to court each other.

By the way, I like how you were able to capture the real color of the spots in your picture. They always show up as yellow in my pics.
