Alright, so I purchased some cages with glass sliding doors from a private party and will be making some in the future. I have one question; how would I go about putting handles and/or locks on the glass sliding doors.

Also, what is a good way to ventilate melamine cages. I was thinking of cutting out a square 3x6 hole on each side and covering it with metal wire mesh. Any other suggestions?

PS: My JCP is gonna shed, for the second time in my care, anyday now! :)
PSS: I'll get the pictures of the rat soon, been busy :wall:

For a lock you can use something like this:

Youll see it in use at many drug stores, etc wherever they need to lock up a sliding door cabinet.

As far as handles go. You can glue a handle on. If you have something to drill through glass you can fasten one on that way.

ventilation

Got the locks and such. Now I'm just interested in ventilation. What would be the best way to put ventilation into melamine cages. I was thinking of something similar to the ones on these cages, http://tarantulacages.com/terrestrial.html, Just not sure how'd I'd make it or do it. Any tips would be greatful. Thanks!

Couple methodes for ventilating.

Drill 2", 3", or 4" holes and fill with round roof vents available at your local hardware store. Like here: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100090036 don't buy these ones, though. They're too spendy, don't spend more than $4 each.

Cut 3x7, 4x9-ish, rectangles and fill with rectangle vents available next to the round ones at your hardware store.

Cut whatever random size hole you'd like and staple your choice of screening over hole. Finish with some nice purty trim to hide the raggedy holes and amateur staple job. Vow to never use this method again due to difficulty and ugliness, not to mention the tendency to wrinkle the screen and not notice until after you've finished.

My choice would be to drill the holes. When drilling melamine, drill halfway through one side, switch sides and drill the rest of the way through from the other side. This will limit your cracking.

Thanks a bunch. I'll look into some of these.

Anymore ideas are welcome.

Also, I should have stated that these are in fact for melamine cages.
