My excavator clay enclosure for my S. mesaensis is dry and I’ll be putting the scorpion in tonight. How do I give it water once it’s dug in? I’d assume I need to wet the substrate, but it should be dry in there, right? I don’t want it to get a mycosis infection.

I assume just have a water dish. It will likely roam at night.

I’m new to scorpions and got a desert species several weeks back. The research I’ve done so far points to most of the water source being taken in from its prey. I do mist a small section of the enclosure wall and it does drink that, pretty cool to watch if you’re lucky enough to see it. I don’t think you want to wet the substrate though, could be wrong, but as far as just providing drinking water misting like I mentioned works.

I’m in the process of doing my excavator clay for the new setup. It’s got some distance from where the burrow is planned and a shallow water dish with just a tiny bit of water on the other end. If it uses the water dish I’ll be able to see footprints leading to and from it.

A lot of people say deep substrate yet most of the videos I run across show them on maybe 2” at best, so makes it confusing when you want to set it up right and ensure it gets water when needed.

Put a lil spout down to its burrow. Every so often put a lil water down?

Yeah, that would be my concern. However, if you did just a little few and far between, do you think it would cause that much issue?
I’m thinking if he were to feed the feeders he’s giving to the scorp with like, apple for instance they may have enough moisture. I’ve found when I grab my dubias with my tongs after they eat apple they release a fair amount of liquid AND have a water dish up top. If that doesn’t work then try the water droplets.

Just a water dish is fine. If the animal won’t look for water when thirsty, natural selection would have taken care of the species long ago.
Moistening the substrate every so often is a possibility, it will travel down into the lower part of the substrate, and it’s natural for that part to be slightly humid. Not too much though. Just every so often.
