Hey my friends and I found one of these Giant Water Bug's like 3 or 4 months ago. We named him Rick Ross. We think its eggs just hatched and were not sure how to take care of his/her young. We've bin feeding him bugs, goldfish, and an assortment of other dead fish from Walmart.

Yea.. we made him a myspace. Umm we've bin keeping track of how much we've feed him over his life so far, and have a few crappy quality pictures and i think 2 music videos to of him catching goldfish.

Enjoy. And if anyone knows what to do with the children it would be great, cause we would each love to have our own Ricky Ross when we go to college lol.

Separate the babies (they're highly cannibalistic at this stage), and give them something to perch on in their own containers. Molting is easier if they have something to hang from.

You can feed the babies almost anything their size or smaller. Anything from 1/2 mealworms, to small crickets, to fruit flies.

The babies require very frequent water changes -- i.e., within several hours of feeding. They're much more sensitive to water quality than the adults.

If this is an Abedus sp. (pics?) the adults are gregarious.

Since there were eggs cemented to the back, your adult is a male.

Good luck! These guys are tough to breed. I know a grad student who did his thesis on them and only got a 10% survival rate at best.

Don't think we'll be finding out anytime soon -- JMagpie hasn't logged in once since (s)he posted this thread.
