I've heard reports of scorps in the Keys that are 5 inches long, shiny black, built like pandinus BUT with THIN claws. Does anyone know what this is? I can find zero info online. It's all word of mouth so far from a few different sources.
No. I guess I should have mentioned it's def NOT gracilis from the description. I have grac in my collection that I caught down here... this is something else. Thanks, though.Centruroides gracilis
Florida Bark Scorpion
That's very interesting to here.... let me ask you, I was told they are shiny jet black- are the females you've seen shiny like an emperor?doubtful...diplos are kinda small....On one of the Keys [can't tell that is where the albinos are from] we caught Gracilis that are well into the 5" mark...The fat females look like a pandinus but with skinny palps.
These are a lot bigger than the 'mainland' gracilis

hmmm the diplo's we caught were the smaller ones not whitei, I was told that they don't get too big and stay small....but ahhh well BAM or whateverDiplocentrus whitei is the biggest scorpion in Texas.about 3 inches bam! take that!
But they have bad, bad claws!
Ok. Good info. Thanks.yes they are...shiny viloet black...with somewhat lighter legs...another person [Dale Marantz] told us about these big emp like scorps and took us to the location where they are and we confirmed they were gracilis...but kinda bigguns
X2.......most tropical centruroides grow to sizes which are conderably larger than their mesic and xeric counterparts, and a 5" male does not sound very far fetched at all to me for a gracilis
John
they get pretty big where I caught them. One male is 5" long , the others are 3-4"X2.......
Gracilis are one of the biggest centruroides in some localities.
