Oh wait, that IS my species Chiapas! Seriously, I cannot believe this spider has gone from being a completely Derpy brown sling to this fast, svelt, dangerous thing that nearly took my tongs away from me and beat me with them.

My camera phone has finally given up the ghost altogether, but I will put up a before-and-after photo as soon as I can borrow my momma's camera and figure out how to use it. I have never, ever seen a transition like this before. I am aghast. I honestly thought something had gotten in there and eaten my expensive sling!

And in spite of my meme language and jokey title, I'll be including data. I just measured him out at 2 inches before his molt. If he isn't three full leggy inches, I'll eat something unpleasant.

Don't know why I'm saying he. Just a feeling, I guess. Does anyone have a bead on spermathecae of any of the Stichoplastoris species?

@JoeRossi , you out there?

Looking foward to pictures from you. Can't say I have had a good molt of anything large enough or not ripped to shreds to make out a distinct spermetheca or lack there of in this specie.

Your our Guinea....have at it :pompous:

Okay, I have to admit that I'm a little bit afraid of this juvie. It's big enough now that it could really plant one on me if it wanted to, and in its Derpity-derp phase, it was WAY faster than it should have been able to be. I'm not afraid of any defensiveness, per se. I have pokies and OBTs, and a number of other bitey-fighty creatures. What I'm afraid of is not knowing it's nature, not knowing what to expect when I rehouse. Anybody out there got juvenile Stichoplastoris of any variety? Just trying to figure out what to expect. Are we talking noodge with a chopstick as per usual, or are we talking catch cups and Bins within Bins and the works?

Joe! This is so frustrating! My phone camera has finally gone to Jesus! Those little bands in the low center? Those are leg bands. My camera is deceased. In Monty Python terms, it is an EX-camera....

I'm actually going to go old-school and borrow my mom's camera she uses for dog shows. Please stand by. I will try to have something by tonight.

There's a pretty big Predator conference in Mesa tomorrow, and I want to be able to show off my fierce little baby. Gotta work this out!

This supports my philosophy of keeping Things With Fangs<TM>: Keep a few Crotalids which you feed by hand for practice. The rest of the animal kingdom should then be a stroll in the park.
Best of luck, OP. More pics, please.

(My spell checker has outdone itself today, suggesting Scrotal to replace Crotalid)

Yeah, Snark, but you see, when I'm moving a diamondback, I know it's a diamondback. When I'm moving a Chiapas, I don't know if it's a beagle or a honey badger! Hence my anxiety. I just had a dadgum OBT spend nearly a month loose in my bedroom!

But I can tell you this: there's nothing scrotal in there. I checked, you can count on it! :cyclops:

Stop it! You made me laugh so hard I snorted herbal tea through my nose. As a matter of personal policy, if I'm going to snort anything through my nose, it better at least be a beer!

If your Chiapas is anything like my S. sp. "San Isidro" then you definitely want a catch cup and you don't want to try the 'poke with a chopstick' variety.

1. My Stichoplastoris runs up paintbrushes without even beating an eyelash - if it had any.
2. It's in a bad mood by default.
3. It's fast and it is prepared to use that speed at the first occasion you provide - poke it and then go looking in the opposite corner of your room for it. You don't want to replace the OBT in your closet with a Stichoplastoris - or at least I think you don't want that.
4. I've heard they have rather strong venom for a NW - from someone who got bit and still hurt nearly a week later.

My Stichoplastoris is definitely my most defensive NW species - with the possible exception of a Phormictopus atrichomatus I once had and that one was mental.

After typing all this yours probably turns out to be a lamb, but I'd still be careful - or did you rehouse already?

Boina, YOU are the lamb! But nope, my Stichoplastoris is not a lamb. Just a wolf in sheep's clothing while it was still wearing its Derpy Face disguise. Even while in full derp, it was equally prepared to run up my arm like an H Mac and whisper mean things in my ear like "yeah, those pants really do make your butt look HUGE!"

I am so glad you offered this up, because I just had a feeling...it's a teacher thing we're taught to pay attention to now that kids shoot each other and us. We are actually encouraged to follow up when something creeps us out. I really love this spider, and I love it's emerging attitude, but I am glad to know my Texan teacher "sump'n ain't rat," spidey senses haven't been lying to me.

The inside and the outside of this wee cute sling didn't match up according to my experience and instincts for spider body language and intentions. Now that it has molted, it looks like it acts. This is one cool black Nopety-nope with 8 nopety-ropes!

CAUTION: STICHOPLASTORIS REHOUSE AHEAD. PROCEED WITH ALL DUE CARE.

Happily, I just invested in a brand new set of paint brushes. Go to town you little Nopety-nope. New brushes just for you to run up or chew up as you please. But will be rehousing in the bathroom. Because I'm a Nopety-nope too, now, when it comes to spiders running around my room like a lunatic. Ix-nay on at-thay!

Seriously, Boina, thanks for the insight. I'll get some pictures and let you all know how it goes as soon as I get my second wind. Just got back from the Predators conference in Mesa. It was awesome, glad to be home!
