I have an adult Female ghost mantis. I recently bred her with a male and everything went well. They stayed together for a few nights and I saw the male on top pf her a couple more times. I separated them yesterday and put them back into their separate enclosures. Today I looked at the females enclosure and she was laying on the substrate.

She is not dead yet. Her mouth parts are still actively moving, she sometimes moves her leg and she is still breathing(I see her abdomen getting bigger and smaller). I fed her a couple large crickets 6-7 days ago prior to breeding.

Her care is as follows.

I feed her every few days, 3-5 days to be exact, a large cricket or so. I feed the crickets a premade cricket diet and water gel, sometimes a bit of apple. I mist her enclosure when I feed her, every 3-5 days. Her temperature is between 70-77, usually around 75F. SHe has lots of space to climb and plenty of perches.

I have no idea what is happening to her or why!

Please help!!!

Probably done for. Where did you get the crickets, any punctures that you can see on her abdomen? She honestly looks like she fell, landed in her back and couldn’t flip over, that causes them to lose blood flow in their legs and raptors and die in result. You probably should euthanize. @Poonjab thanks for the ping.

She died. No punctures, possibly a bad cricket or a fall.

It kinda looks/sounds like she was oothbound. That would be pretty fast as it takes a bit for the ooth to develop, but they sometimes will become oothbound if they eat too much before laying an ooth if it’s not fertilized
