The most important thing Ive learned about keeping widows is don't keep putting off taking the egg sac out and moving it to a container with very small covered in pantyhoes air holes otherwise you'll be running around with a piece of duct tape cathing slings for days

I have two L. hesperus females at the moment, this species is hardy and requires very little in the way of care. Half my needs are at the local Target, food storage plastics and tupperware punctured a few times with a icepick. Add 2-3" of playsand, I like these containers to have some weight and placed somewhere safe that will lessen the chances of being knocked over. Provide leanto a la a piece of driftwood or cork/tree bark or broken pottery.

With a more tropical or forest species I would go with woodchips or forest bedding substrate instead.

But XL vials, deli cups, etc are commonly used too.

For s'lings, small airtight reusable food storage contailers or deli cups or vials with ventilation provided by needle holes.

Just was reading a thread in the "Not So Spineless Wonders" forum. Yes, stay away from pine and cedar and other softwoods as they contain natural insecticides.

This is by no means a plug but LLL Reptiles is a great source for inexpensive forest substrates and great people to deal with. A personal friend who collects exotic frogs drives out to their store in Oceanside California frequently.
