First off, what kind of hognose? Eastern, Western, gloydi, mexican, tricolor, madagascan. Next question a baby or an adult? Either way, I would buy a guaranteed
feeder, pinky mice or hoppers depending on the size of the snake. Easterns are notorious for refusing to eat antything other than toads, so I would not get one of those. Other than that keep them like a colubrid, Heat pad no more than 1/3 the size of the cage, hide area in cool side and warm side, I would use papertowel or newspaper for substrate and make sure the cage is secure as they are escape artists.

Wow that's a lot of questions. I know about the east not eating thing so i know that. The show I'm going to has a lot so I'll get what ever is easy on the wallet. I'm getting a baby.

Other than feeding differences, the N. amer sps are pretty easy imo, no major issues. With the eastern, I used to go around at night collecting toads when it rained, it wasn't a big deal to me, ...and I got to keep toads haha. I like amphs, kinda like it all really.

They are all kinda pricey compared to most snakes ... .
I personally dig the western hogs, be cautious they can give a dirty bite fyi ...lol
They seem pretty basic and easy to care for as in my experience has given me. Anything particular you are concerned about ?

You really should post a picture of your "balloon hand".IMHO poeple thinking about buying a hog need to know that the bite CAN be serious, despite what many say.I am sorry Ryan, but your hand was SERIOUS,lol, and I have a fee\ling you would agree....But all that said, they are just amazing snakes to keep. Nothing can come close to that personality!

I heard they rarely bite at all and it is hard for them to because of the shape of their, uh, about I guess. I held one once and I loved him. He was a western hog nose. Wasn't too pricey. $120. I want one so bad.

Our big girl,"Bertha" is a sweetheart (340+ grams,36+ inches long) VERY calm, gentle snake. Our small het's are a different story, they think they are little cobras. Nothing but puffing, hooding, and hissing. No bites yet though. But then again we are not much for handling, either. If you want a small snake, buy a male, otherwise just get a female. Our males are MAYBE 18 inches, and under 100 grams. They are still great pets!

mine maybe a rarity but...she has no trouble biting and doing the chew . . . Beautiful unique and cool, don't kid yourself though, she snagged a mouse with her tail and goes drop jaw for my hand .. . She's a beast :p
