I have only a Pink Salmon and she grew fast this year. Almost 6 inches. I handle her but she is very itchy. 90% of the time after I hold her I have to take a shower. She has never attempted to bite me.

Thanks Lennie... I have the same experience with my Lps... Other ideas on the other species?

I was actually thinking about buying a few on the list you made up BUT they look a little similar to the Pink Salmon, just smaller. Hey if you want to get them...it's not a thing wrong with that. But from what the dealer here in Austin said they are more skittish than the Pink Salmon. Will not bite but kick hairs and run fast from you!

we had an L. difficilis at the store i used to work, she was about 4", so still rather small. I own and have owned LPs and in my experience the L. difficilis is a tad bit feistier, she would often rear up but mostly bluffs. more likely to stand its ground than to run and flick than an LP. but that may just be the one specimen ive looked after. much redder than the LP as well

Thanks guys... Yeah i know LP is the largest among the group and i think the klugi has been the heaviest... I fell in love with the genus because i love their simple colorations and the size they get, not to mention their appetite..

i have experience with LP L. difficilis and L. striatipes, its hard to tell the difference in the temperament of the 3, when i have only had 1ea but i think difficilis wins in looks because their hairy, striatipes is kinda between LP and difficilis

Thanks HcUnderoath, what's distinctive about each of the species if you could note one? Thanks again!

I think it's very interesting to get intrigued by a certain taxon and try to get as many as you can and compare/contrast them. More power to you, and I hope to see your observations from time to time.

He said the 5 famous species. There's a revision of the Lasiodora genus by Bertani in progress, which will indeed reduce the number of valid species in the genus from the current 30-something to 5 (plus 1 new species described) BTW. (But that 5 isn't exactly the 5 the OP listed according to the abstract I saw.)

Ok interresting I didnt hear about that, so didnt know that 5 (or 6) were more "famous"/valid than others;)

If they are revising the genus then that does make those 6 species more valid then the rest. They are making revisions on the species listed and decided that 25 of them do not belong in the lasiodora genus. That would be my understanding. I find the world spider catalog hard to follow because there are so many revisions and reclassifications in species over time.
