Yup. The guy lives up beyond Mae Taeng. I'm not sure I'd want it that close to my face/nose, even if it is a tame household pet. If you free feed some tokays, and they can eat 3 or 4 mice a day, they tend to grow quite a bit. And produce a mountain of manure that reeks worse than a cat box.

Largest Tokay ever recorded was something like 60 kg. Sold for several million $$$.
I'm told that pic may not be the guy in Mae Taeng but a breeder in the Philippines.

It's actually a little tricky to breed the giants. You guess which ones, males, will get oversized then breed them and hope. The females. which never grow huge, won't breed with males much larger than themselves. Survival instinct I suppose.

But really, seems there is something about the guy's position, it's as though something else belongs there he was holding. But also it seems we would see more pics of this thing on the internet. A glance on the net reveals several gecks this big or larger. I see that shot made it up there. I need to get my hiney up to Mae Taeng and take my own shots.
One way to tell photoshops from real sometimes is with flash shots like that one. With the flash directly above the lens the hard sharp shadows below objects can be very difficult to fake. Under his chin, hand, his legs and foot, and the geck's tail.

Everything I know about these gecks comes from local folklore. They are extremely rare and a lot of myths and superstitions surround them, making them more valuable than gold. I'd like to hear from someone who knows animal genetics like PittBullLady to explain how the giantism, recessive genes, generation skipping and all that fluff works. I wonder if it is like giantism in humans from a defective gene that causes growth regulation to be faulty.

I noted the shadow but people are getting very good at taking care of all that, it's amazing what the photoshoppers are doing today. There are sites where they challenge each other and show off their work looks perfect, shadows and all. OK I'll check around for giant Tokays.
