Woke up yesterday morning to my GBB with one leg up in the air, thinking he must have fell and hurt itself I'm not sure let me make sure your not bleeding etc, everything seemed fine that it's just in the air!
Woke up today CHRISTMAS DAY, and my GBB has 4 LEGS IN THE AIR!!

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME, WHAT IS THIS, WHAT DO I DO? DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?! IMG_20231225_214707.jpg IMG_20231225_214723.jpg IMG_20231225_214754.jpg IMG_20231225_214759.jpg

I've seen posts like this before, mostly regarding jumping spiders, but have seen a few about T's. The concensus is that the spider has been injured (from a fall most likely) and the internal pressure from swelling causes the legs to fill with too much hemolymph, which makes them to stick up. The outlook is not good, unfortunately.

Thank you so very much! Last December I recieved a gbb and pulchripes, two weeks ago I awoke to my pulchripes had passed! Now this is happening!!! What is going on?! I just recently switched their homes, did I have a bad bag of dirt?! I'm so devastated!!

Yeah, that’s pretty strange did it molt recently?
It's due for a molt

No, I'm positive it's ain premolt as it won't eat and it's super webbing!

Do you handle them at all? They can be injured from falls of relatively short distance. Even in the pics above, the distance between the lid of the enclosure and the substrate is great enough to cause injury if a fall occurs, especially if it lands in something solid (like the branch in there). Not positive that's what happened, but it's one possibility.

I do not handle it! I've never handled any of my T's, (just started the hobby last December for Xmas)! To be honest I was terrified and didn't want to get bit lol wasn't sure if my warm finger would remind my T of a horn worm 🤣

He does have a few webs connected from the lid to the bottom..I'm really hoping he's okay!!!

Well, good luck. As with just about any health issue these creatures encounter, all you can really do is wait and make sure it's basic needs are being met (access to fresh water, suitable temperature, etc). Keep us posted.

Not sure what happened- but I lean towards NMT.

there’s very very very few times we know why something happened, and or can do something about it

these are animals that are largely on autopilot- all we can do is feed and hydrate them

they are not pets in the traditional sense at all

Could you possibly tell me what NMT is?! I've googled it and can't put my finger on what that means!?!

They are referring to the person you have been conversing with. @NMTs . That's the name they use on here.
Well now I feel SUPER STUPID 😂
he's never fallen before, he usually stay at the corner bottom or sometimes when he eats and dances will like go to the top of the cork and get tall like he's a king 🤣
One day it was only one leg, thought maybe the cold got to him, moved his enclosure to a warmer and more humid place, woke up the next day (yesterday) to three more legs up as well! And two weeks ago my same age pulchripes passed!y pulchripes buried itself after molting once and wouldn't molt or eat for a whole year even when I gently dug it up to ensure life! This one usually eats great, very intense! But he started showing signs of premolt same time my pulchripes passed! I do have a teenage bird eater and he started showing pre molt signs at the same time the GBB, but is doing FANTASTIC! All of them a month ago were given new enclosures! I truly am wracking my brain, I feel like it's my fault!! Lesson learned to not start the hobby with two slings!!

Should I grab him out with my hand and put him in ICU?

Should I pull it out on my hand? Put it in ICU? This morning I tried to just nudge his rump to see if we have movement, he wanted to go into his home but he had webbed it so much he couldn't get all his legs in, so I destroyed a small amount for him to be able to get in, he immediately went in and started kicking hairs at me!! I feel like that's a great sign!!

Good morning and I'm sorry this is happening. The owner of my local reptile store experienced something similar with a MATURE MALE THAT SOMEONE TRIED TO RETURN. For money. As if someone would accidently buy the MM P machala and not the immature or likely females. Anyway. He thought he was dead already. I went to pick him up to get a better look and he was alive. Just a little flinch I felt when I grabbed him.

The store owner said he had already tried forcing fluids by submerging his carapace in water. The T was still on bark chips...it's a reptile store not a tarantula store...so we put him on some very moist reptisoil.

A week later he was still alive and looked normal. His rigid legs had lowered to a normal stance. I haven't checked in a few days due to the holiday.

But remain hopeful...if a mature male can improve then maybe yours can too.

No, just leave it in the enclosure. I was only asking if you handle them to figure out if it may have taken a fall - it's good that you don't do that. The water dish in your pics above looks dry, so be sure that it has access to fresh water. It is encouraging that it's moving around still, so hope it improves.

The dish does have water in it, i was moving things around, i usually have it filled to the brim as I have a piece of moss usually hanging inside to ensure if he went into the water he could get out!

The moss in there is unnecessary because they won't get stuck, and it will wick the water out of the dish into the substrate. Then you'll have to refill more frequently and the substrate will be more damp than this species really likes.

What your saying is what I usually do, but then I had a few folks tell me I'm going wrong without it, Ive noticed my gut is usually the way to go, thank you so much for showing me that!! Thank you so much for correcting me as well!!

I'm curious to know if it's possible that the spider has been exposed to any chemicals. I think it's far more likely that it's been injured but the first thing that came to mind was "some sort of chemical exposure?"

None that I am aware of..
What about the accessories in his enclosure? Has anyone had any issues like that maybe an allergic reaction? But I mean I feel like it would have been immediately not two weeks later!

I’ve had things happen to my T’s where the results in an event were not immediately evident; maybe remove anything that you think might be suspicious and keep an eye on him, better safe than sorry!
