Gathering wild pill bugs?

hello all,
i am curious, can i collect pill bugs from my yard and my surrounding bush areas? to use in my communal emp tank? i am positive that there are no pesticides used in my yard and as far as the forest i dont think there is. the only reason i ask is because i have to clean my emp tank and replace the eco earth, thus thowing away what little colony i already have in there.

i know that they are breeding so i guess the conditions are good.... see wee ones all the time. anyway any response would be greatly appreciated. oh i know this isnt the rtight thread but how does the false bottom concept work? does it help with humidity? will the water go stagnant that seeps down?

I would gather some adults and use the babies that they have.
I started out with a couple of wild caught ones, now I have THOUSANDS of the critters!!

By false bottom do you mean the gravel at the bottom with peat over the top? I have a tube sticking up from the gravel that I pour water into. The water soaks up through the peat and keeps it all nice and moist. Theres a sticky in the scorpion section about how to build that kind of tank.
Ive had my emps set up like that for 3 yrs and have no odd stagnant smells. It keeps the humidity up very nicely! I even have my T. blondi in a set up like that too. She loves it! Stopped her from hovering over her waterdish all the time.

How do you start a colony? Just get peat moss or something and keep food and moisture in there? They're absolutely everywhere and I want to play with them. Any advice?
