Was thinking it may be kind of fun having a thread for snails slugs and such. i am getting incresingly interested in them and find them to be pretty amazing creatures.

how about some photos... some info and maybe even have some identification going on. i myself jsu tcollected 2 brilliant green snails in the mountians. they are upstairs now so i will grab photos later.

just an idea :)

do you mean preserve the shell? I keep the shells of most of my snails, I place the dead snail out my garden for a few weeks, then check over the shell and clean it

the easiet way is go to book stores and flip through the pages
there are a lotta books available in Taiwan regarding to snails
and u don't really need to read it, just write down the latin name, and key in google
cheers

A thread just for pictures and information on gastropods is a good idea:D
Hello, I read your thread and went to your website. I wondered what the cucumbers where hanging by, but figured it out. What else do you feed those guys? Are they easy to keep? What do you have them in? Kind of looks like one of the "critter keepers". Those are cool looking snails!

oh ya never thought of that....i noticed a ton of snail, butterfly, and beetle books but didnt think to use them for the latin name.

i want to preserve the whole snail. animal and shell together preferably in a solution. from things i have read you can preserve teh shell and body seperatly somewhat easily but together it is difficult. any ideas? formalin apperantly make sthe shell brittle.

My Lignus are fed just cucumber at the moment, tied to the branches in theyre tank, they are doing very well on it, I keep them in a plastic tank, size approx L 42.5cm X W 27.5cm X H 33cm, they are eating very well and laying plenty of eggs recently, ive been told about making a paste of cucumber, apple and cuttlefish for them, so i'll be doing that for them soon, they're kept at room temperature, i spray them heavily daily, I mix liquid calcium with they're water, they'e most active just after being sprayed, but are generally active day and night, Im finding them easy to keep at the moment, but some people has had trouble keeping them, the last ones I had didnt live long, these ones are doing very well thogh.

maybe u need to go to a bigger book store and go to the right sections(not the kids or juvinille ones indeed), and i bet most insect books do have latin names, and that's how things works
even in Chinese, there are tons of different names for just one animals, too
and english name is not that handy as well
