Hi all here's my problem.

I've caught a graden spider to keep and to feed since i enjoy it so much ;P

But its not making any webs, I've got it in a foot round container, with twigs stuck to the side in a circle shape, he's made threads connecting them But no proper web. any advice? or do they take more than 3 days to settle down?

how big is it? they wont make homes straight away just pieces of line from corner to corner to catch prey, just wait and after a few weeks or so it should build up

Hi ghost_tomb,

Thre is a possibility it does not like the set up you have made for it. Try putting it in a larger container with more options to make a web (i presume you are talking about an orb web spider, not a sheet web?). if it is an orb spider, once it has chosen its spot, it will be able to make a complete orb web overnight. Sheet webs take a while longer.

Cheers,

well i left the top off the orb webs tank last night and then left that on a window frame in my room, just in case their wasn't enough air flow etc

So i get this morning and its made a web between the window and the tub it lived in so now i've got it living free :) which is fine by me:)

I've also got a sheet web (i think thats what it is) if you know alot about them, like size etc, if you could post in my british spider ID thread it would be helpful

I was going to suggest that you allow the spider to choose it's home, but you beat me to it.

I read a long time ago about an American guy who made a large frame and hung it in front of his kitchen window. The spider that he placed on it used to keep his kitchen insect-free in the summer.
