Although I'm pretty sure there were two full insertions on Friday, I tried again Saturday night and well, she didn't want anything to do with him. I had to rescue his behind before he got munched...she slapped him once and that was the end of the story hehe. I do have a video of the successful mating but can only send it to people whos email account can hold 11.9 MB, unless someone can compress it for me AND can receive the video in their account...I had to disappoint a whole bunch of people and tell them they can't get the video. I tried compressing it but the best I could do is go from 13.9 MB to 11.9 MB =(. Anyway, here are the pics:

Shortly after pic #3 she told him off the harsh way...he's alive though =)

Here's a shot to show you the size of the male...as good as 7"!

I will try again in a week or two...

Jake

While I'm here I'll ask: Has anyone else bred this species before? I'd like to hear their experience. There's only one so far in the breeding section of the board..

That would be me.

Besides what I wrote in that post, I can add that the slings come out fairly large. They were huge compared to the "L. cristatas" I had recently. They also grow alot faster than most people think when fed well.

Another interesting note is that my female did not resist at all when I took the sac from her.

Good luck,

John

I've bred G. aureostriata this summer and had some success. (I'm still waiting on the female to drop an eggsac - although she has webbed in part of the tank and I am hoping this is a good sign)
I got a male from Wade on Father's day and I bred the male with my female pretty consistently for about a month and a half. during that time, he made several insertions. The only aggression was on the initial introduction, but after that she was more than willing every time he would venture into her tank.
If you'd like to talk more about it, drop me an email and I'll be glad to share my experiences.

I bred them a while back. Guess you missed my threads about it. :) Took forever and a day for the female to drop a sack but pretty much what I did was rotate the male between 3 females over and over till he eventually got munched after a few dozen breedings. Then I kept throwing all the food to the females that they would eat. They have large sacks with a ton of eggs but in my case she didn't roll the sack right so I had to take it way too soon. Still got 120 or so babies out of it but it could have been over 1000 as the eggs totaled more than that. 58 days after being laid they have molted into the size before they exit the sack on their own which is roughly between 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Check my update on the chaco slings for an idea of how much they gain per molt as some of them haven't molted yet in the pic.
