Anyone here kept these and got any tips? I'm thinking of picking one up as a first trap door.
Seeing as nobody has replied, im happy to offer a few tips. I've never kept this species as it isnt available to me, but i do keep hundreds of Australian trapdoors from a wide variety of families and genus.Anyone here kept these and got any tips? I'm thinking of picking one up as a first trap door.
It does appear only a few of the species in this genus build lids, but honestly i think the lidless ones are better as you generally see them more oftenI have had one for a little over a year. Very easy to keep, I put mine in a 32oz deli cup with about 1.5 inches of somewhat moist dirt. I don't know how other people's specimens behave, but mine never made a trapdoor, instead, it made a tube web. Out of everything I keep it is my most reclusive spider, which is unfortunate because the gold coloration really is beautiful. I can sometimes catch it halfway out of the tube web at night (as shown in the first picture), but the slightest disturbance causes it to hide.

I have had mine for just 2 months. Got it as a tiny sling so far it only has a web tunnel. Fear not is selling them right niwSeeing as nobody has replied, im happy to offer a few tips. Fufius remind me of a cross between 2 genus present in Australia, Stanwellia and Arbanitis. Both have fairly simple care, just give them about 120-150mm of compressed damp substrate. A big mistake alot of people make is giving them a vertical setup, but many trapdoors prefer digging horizontally or diagonally instead. Not sure if its the case with Fufius but keep it in mind. Trapdoors with this build are also generally fine living in cocopeat, so you shouldn't have to fuss too much over what sub to use. Thats pretty much it, just dont let their sub dry out too much. Feed them as much as you want, when they are in premolt they will web over the entry or seal the lid down (if the particular species is one that actually builds a lid) and will show little sign of activity for a few months
