Right around now, some may have some molting gooties. Here's my freshly molted Poec., and...it's a girl!

Ok, in my opinion, you win the prize for the nicest new molt pic.
Although it MIGHT have something to do with it being a pic of an awesome P. metallica female:}

I can't get over how beautiful they are. I wish I could afford one, but $400 is too much for me.

I'm speechless John. You are very very lucky...I know you worked hard to get her though. Best of luck raising her.

Conspiracy theory

Seems awfully convenient on the night that many people are checking in to see who won the P. metallica sling raffle John posts these pics. I call for an investigation into collusion between Scott and John to cause people to get even more whipped into a frenzy during the additional week that tickets will be on sale.

.
.
.

The only thing that scares me about a spider like that is the value. When a sling I paid $20-$30 for turns up dead, oh well, that was dinner out with the wife. A sling like that up and dies and, crap, I'd be smacking myself in the head for weeks.

It's a beautiful critter, John. I look forward to seeing the number of adult female pics you'll be posting down the road to quiet the naysayers.

Nice!! It's the kind of spider I can imagine owners-partners to get jealous of!

Time to start starving it so it stays that colour for longer eh? :D

They stay that color for life. Males change color after their ultimate molt. Other than that, the colors don't fade, they actually intensify as they grow.

You know, you're the second person that I've heard that from. Don't know the origin of that, considering the lack of info on this "new" species, but from the adult pics I've seen, these guys will not lose their coloration like some people seem to think. If anything, they're more purple as spiderlings and "blue-out" as adults.
Maybe they will "brown-out" as they get older, but looking at this one pic (thanks Sam!)of a large adult female, they will stay blue.
I don't know, 'cause I've never maintained a large gootie in my collection.
Poecilotheria metallica seems to have a "too good to be true" aura.

Edit:
Gary, I see you beat me to it. Thanks for the response. Figures you'd know considering you're buddy/buddy with Mr. Smith himself ;) :D

God those are beautiful!! E-spiderworld has one <edit - Satanika>, uh yeah, let me whip out the old checkbook! :D

A T like that I'd be sweating bullets with every molt. Congrats on it and I'm glad for you that she is female!! Now we need some males! So we can have slings. Cheap slings. Lots of slings! Slings for everyone!!! =D

Can anyone post a pic or a link to an adult pic? I'd like to see one.

Fantastic sling there, and nice pic of it too. Grats!:D

I'd LOVE to have one, but no WAY I'll pay what they cost, hehe. Maybe in a few years when the females of this batch mature and there are males to breed em with and the prices come down.... Until then, I'll just enjoy the pics you post of YOURS!;P

Are dealers not replacing DOAs with this? I can understand why, I guess -- they're freaking expensive. But then I can understand why they'd want to..I'd never order from someone again if a $400 spider was DOA

Ahh the fading thing I was basing on the pictures of adult females I'd seen, linked from the other thread. They DO maintain the blue, but don't look as good in the adult stage. I wasn't at all saying "they have NO blue as adults" I was merely refering to getting it to stay that pattern and colouration for longer, as it looks more spectacular than that of the adults (all based on limited photoes)

Many apologies for making a comment on a subject I'm not educated in :8o
