So THAT'S how it's pronounced!

Now all we need is a key to the pronunciation of common names. KIDDING!

This key should nip many future pronunciation arguments in the bud.

I'm bummed, however, because A. juruenicola is not mentioned, and I want to know how to pronounce it. I'm picking one up at the Bug Fair this weekend and I'd like to sound half-way literate when I approach Ken the Bug Guy for the "bud-drop." (And of course for when I casually mention it at tea with the Duchess ...)

I'm going with "joor-oo-en-EE-ko-lah" ... am I right?

Ken is cool. Just ask him how it's pronounced. No dumb questions. :)

Well... yeah there really are some dumb questions out there, but that is not one of them. :)

And you may find that different people from different cultural or educational backgrounds pronounce the same biological names different ways. i.e.- tow-may-tows, tow-mah-tows, etc.

I used this list as a basis and added the most popular common names, country/area of origin and a bit about each species: lifestyle, temperament, keeping recommendations, etc to create a personal study guide. (I'm a little OCD...:))

Then why do people get so annoyed when I pronounce "pulchripes" "or-ee-oh-stree-AH-tuh" ? :?

{D{D{D Well, I'm disappointed that, yet again, I'm stymied on the juruenicola pronunciation, but at least this list does label the "golden-knee" as Grammostola AUREOSTRIATA ! Are we getting "aureostriata" back, or will I be further disappointed to find out that this list pre-dates the name change to "pulchripes"? ;)
