I was out camping with a bunch of buddies of mine today for my 23rd birthday and my girlfriend stumbled across this little guy, I was wondering if anyone could posatively ID him. If it makes any bit of difference I live in Southern Illinois

A Ground Skink, Scincella lateralis, that has had a bad run of luck tail-wise?

how big does things get? i saw some in the pet store once and they were prety big, but what about that one

Some of the larger members of the skink family (which is a large family of lizards with members on all the continents except Antarctica.) can two and even three feet total length, but the ground skink only gets about 4-5" TOTAL length including tail.

THAT'S NOT A lizard.......It's a salamander or skink of some kind..........i suggest feeding him small bugs...........like crikets or something.
