I have found what I think is a mated lasiuys niger queen (past research told me they scrape their wings off and scrable about looking for a place to set up the colony after they've been mated and I found this one with no wings wondering around). Anyway, I caught it and put it in a little tub with some soil and something to hide under. I've also given it some water (just misted it really) and a little bit of sugar water in case it wants some food (I know they raise the first few workers with the protein from the muscles that used to power their wings). Anyway, is there anything else I should do or can I just leave it in peace to do its job?

Most queens do fine without any food. The first food they recieve is whatever their first workers scrounge up. Water is a good idea though. I usually start my queens by putting them in a test tube with water in it plugged by some cotton. The queen can get some water through the cotton. She should be just fine if you leave her in peace. Good luck!!
